Brief Biography and or accomplishements

Jamal Hallam is a research scientist and head of Soil-Water-Plant laboratory at National Institute of Agricultural Research of Morocco (INRA), Regional Center for Agricultural Research of Agadir since 2011. During his work at INRA he left, from 2016 to 2019, to pursue a Ph.D programme in Environmental Science (Soil Hydrology and Ecology applied to agriculture), at University of York, United Kingdom, which was funded by the Islamic Development Bank under the Merit Scholarship Scheme. He has an Engineer diploma in Soil and Water Management (IAV HASSAN II, Morocco) and previously, 2009-2011, worked as head of “Irrigation Systems Design Department” and site foreman at TISSI-LAND Company for irrigation and drip system equipment then as an Irrigation Systems Design Manager and site foreman at Irriconcept Company, Ait Melloul, Morocco. His previous R&D works first switched between pedology, fertility, erosion, and salinity mappings of fragile and marginal environments (Tamanar, El Kelaa Sraghna, Tata and Laayoune regions) then spanned to investigate rhizosphere-biology-salinity-soil hydraulic function interactions. He has produced several publications in peer-reviewed international journals and numerous publications in journals and international conferences. He is a member of the British Society of Soil Science and a reviewer for international journals. His recent and current research projects study 1) soil salinity dynamics under buried (nano-tube) and drip irrigation and its impact on the management of alternative crops in fragile areas, 2) role of mycorrhizal fungi in the tolerance of the argan tree (Argania spinosa) to water and salt stress 3) the potential of argan orchards and forests and their ecosystems to sequester carbon 4) and establishment of the CO2 balance of the argan sector.
